Edmond Roudnitska is one of the foundational figures of twentieth-century perfumery, the creator of Dior Eau Sauvage and Rochas Femme among others. Le Parfum de Therese was a private composition he made for his wife Therese over several decades; Frédéric Malle acquired rights to release it commercially. The melon and tangerine opening is unexpected for a mid-century composition: melon reads as cool and slightly sweet, adding a fruity facet alongside jasmine and pepper.
Plum and rose in the heart develop a rich, jammy-floral character, the plum giving warmth and depth to the rose without becoming heavy. Nutmeg adds dry spice. Leather and vetiver in the base anchor the composition in a classic chypre structure: leather is dry and clean; vetiver adds earthy, slightly smoky depth. Cedar provides woody structure. The overall composition reads as classical and architectural. Longevity is eight to ten hours.
