Tonkade (a nonce word placing tonka bean at its core) is a tonka-forward oriental. Tonka bean carries a warm, sweet character with notes of vanilla, almonds, and new-mown hay; it reads as richer and more complex than vanilla alone. Neroli in the opening provides a fresh, floral introduction that contrasts with the warmer base before making way for the oriental heart.
Vanilla deepens the tonka character; cedarwood adds dry, woody structure that prevents the composition from becoming too sweet. Patchouli contributes earthy depth; amber provides resinous warmth; labdanum adds the balsamic, slightly animalic quality of the cistus resin that extends the drydown.
