    Tom Ford Black Orchid is both opulent and earthy, rare in dark florals: black truffle and orchid in a patchouli base that pushes toward soil and depth rather than sweetness, for women.

    About Tom Ford Black Orchid

    David Apel composed Black Orchid for Tom Ford in 2006, the year Ford launched his eponymous brand after leaving Gucci. The "black orchid" is a constructed accord, orchids have no natural scent, but Apel combined black truffle, blackcurrant, and a dark floral abstract to create something convincingly exotic. The truffle note is the distinguishing feature: earthy, fermented, faintly animalic.

    Patchouli dominates the base alongside vetiver and sandalwood, pulling the florals toward earth rather than sweetness. Vanilla appears as a textural softener rather than a sugary note; incense adds smoke and structure. Projection is substantial in the first two to three hours, settling to a ten-plus hour skin scent of dark patchouli and vanilla.
