Ambrettolide

Ambrettolide fragrance note icon

Ambrettolide is the macrocyclic musk molecule responsible for the warmth of natural ambrette seed, isolated and produced synthetically since the early 20th century. It belongs to the macrocyclic musk family (the same molecular shape as nature's civetone and muscone), which means it carries a more natural, skin-bound character than the polycyclic synthetic musks (Galaxolide, Iso E Super-style nitromusks) that dominate mainstream perfumery. Matiere Premiere Parisian Musc at Parfum Central uses ambrettolide as a feature, building the composition around the molecule rather than masking it inside a larger accord.
