Sicilian Lemon

Sicilian Lemon fragrance note icon

Sicilian lemons (Citrus limon var. Femminello) are grown along the Etna foothills and Catania plain, where volcanic soil and Mediterranean climate produce what is widely cited as the most expressive lemon oil in perfumery. The cold-pressed peel oil is sharp, sun-bright, slightly sweet, and almost minerally compared to Spanish or Argentine lemon sources. It became the signature top note of Italian eau de cologne (Acqua di Parma Colonia is built around it) and remains the dominant lemon in Italian artisan perfumery, including Laboratorio Olfattivo and Acqua di Parma releases. Sicilian lemon flashes for 30 to 60 minutes before fading, which is why perfumers nearly always extend the top with bergamot, neroli, or petitgrain.
