Fig Leaf

Fig leaf in perfumery is built around stemone, a captive synthetic that mimics the green, milky-coconut, slightly metallic scent of crushed fig leaves and stems. The accord rose with the modern green-fragrance wave starting in the early 2000s, alongside cucumber and tomato leaf as part of the Mediterranean-summer fragrance family. Fig leaf reads cooler and more vegetal than fig fruit, which is why perfumers use it in compositions seeking shade-under-the-fig-tree atmospherics rather than dessert sweetness.
