What is YSL Le Vestiaire des Parfums?
Le Vestiaire des Parfums (French for "the perfume wardrobe") is YSL Beauty's haute parfumerie collection. In the house's words, it is "the unique haute parfumerie wardrobe that inherits the style and spirit of Yves Saint Laurent. An olfactory interpretation of the couturier's iconic pieces, materials and emblematic addresses, crafted by the most renowned perfumers."
Each perfume starts from a garment. YSL puts it this way: "The style, embodied by an emblematic couture piece. The spirit, captured in an attitude that defines both the piece and its signature ingredient." That is why the names read like a wardrobe inventory: Jumpsuit, Cuir (leather), Tuxedo, Saharienne, Trench.
The bottles match the idea. YSL describes a design "Sleek, sharp, sensorial," with "the architectural purity of its angled cut" and a cap and label in "the emblematic grain de poudre," the textured fabric of Saint Laurent's tuxedo, in "Yves Saint Laurent's favorite color: black." Every perfume in the line is typed by the brand as a unisex fragrance.
YSL Jumpsuit
YSL Jumpsuit is the collection's bright magnolia. It is by master perfumer Carlos Benaïm and launched in 2020. The garment behind it dates from 1968, when, in YSL's words, "Yves Saint-Laurent's first, short evening jumpsuit in black silk jersey was acclaimed by the fashion press as a bold new fashion statement."
Benaïm traces the perfume to a trip: "I remember a stay in Portofino… My hotel overlooked a grove of magnolia trees in full blossom on a very steep slope that drove straight into the sea." The brand lists bergamot, petitgrain and mandarin at the top, magnolia, peony and jasmine at the heart, and sandalwood, ambroxan and a peach accord in the base. YSL describes "Citrusy brightness" with "Rosy freshness. Velvety peachiness. And a heady white floral trail."

YSL Cuir
YSL Cuir (French for leather) is the collection's dark side: a leather perfume built around oud. It honours one of Saint Laurent's boldest moves; the house says that "In 1960, Yves Saint Laurent, playing by his own rules, was the first to send a black leather jacket on a couture runway."
Expect a deep, leathery, woody scent with the richness of oud, the kind that comes into its own after dark and once the weather cools. YSL Supreme Bouquet
YSL Supreme Bouquet is the white floral of the group, built on tuberose and ylang-ylang. YSL describes the pairing like fabric: "the opulent tuberose is like a rich floral pattern, whereas the delicate Ylang Ylang is a more subtle floral print."
Tuberose gives it a creamy, heady richness; ylang-ylang adds a softer, sunnier sweetness. It suits anyone who loves big white flowers and wants them polished rather than loud. An Eau de Parfum, 125 ml, AED 1,400.
YSL Muse
YSL Muse is what YSL calls "Le Vestiaire des Parfums's NEW icon," and it is by principal perfumer Marie Salamagne. It is built around an ink accord.
The brand lists incense, Ourika lavender and clary sage at the top, orris concrete, ambrette absolute and Bourbon vanilla absolute at the heart, and an ink accord with ambery woods in the base. Salamagne calls it "a skin scent that explodes." Warm, powdery and a little smoky, it is the Le Vestiaire perfume for people who like iris and vanilla with an edge. 125 ml, AED 1,250.
