Edmond Roudnitska composed Une Fleur de Cassie around cassie absolute and mimosa absolute, two extractions from the same flower; Frédéric Malle released the composition in 2000 with cumin and clove in the heart over sandalwood and apricot, for women.

About Frederic Malle Une Fleur De Cassie EDP

Edmond Roudnitska, creator of Dior Eau Sauvage and considered one of the great twentieth-century perfumers, composed Une Fleur de Cassie as a study in a single flower. Cassie is the Provencal name for acacia or mimosa; the composition uses both cassie absolute and mimosa absolute, two different extractions from closely related plants, to build a layered portrait of the note. Bergamot, rose, and aldehydes in the opening provide a classic, lifted introduction.

Jasmine, violet, and clove in the heart add depth to the cassie-mimosa accord; cumin is the notable element, contributing a slightly animalic, spiced quality that prevents the floral from reading as too clean or simple. Sandalwood and cedar in the base provide woody structure; apricot adds a warm, slightly fruity sweetness; vanilla rounds the drydown. Longevity is eight to ten hours.
