Xerjoff Six UAE Exclusive: The Black Bottle Inspired by Bakhoor, and What It Smells Like
Share
Xerjoff Six is the smoky, spicy member of the Xerjoff UAE Exclusive collection, and Xerjoff built it as a tribute to bakhoor, the incense burned in homes across the Gulf. It comes in a black flacon from the UAE flag. Marasca cherry, pink pepper and bitter orange open it, incense, neroli and black pepper sit in the heart, and tobacco, tolu balsam and ambergris finish it. Interest is rising fast: Google Keyword Planner shows searches for "xerjoff 6" up about 40% on the previous three months. This guide explains what Six smells like, what bakhoor actually is, and how Six compares with its black sibling, Seven.
What is Xerjoff Six?
Six is number six of seven perfumes Xerjoff created in honour of the United Arab Emirates. The house unveiled the set at Beautyworld Middle East in Dubai in late October 2025 and released it in December for Eid Al Etihad, the UAE's National Day. Xerjoff's own product page calls it "a Dubai boutique exclusive".
In Xerjoff's words, the scent of Six is "deliberately reminiscent of a staple of Middle Eastern culture that dates back thousands of years: bakhoor". The house adds that bakhoor "has become associated with luxury and hospitality", and draws a line from that to the UAE itself. Our guide to the whole Xerjoff UAE Exclusive collection covers all seven numbers side by side.
The black flacon
Like every bottle in the set, Six keeps Xerjoff's faceted signature shape and gold pointed cap. The glass is black, one of the four colours of the UAE flag, and its surface carries a hand-painted brushstroke texture that Xerjoff says mimics the moving sands of the desert. A gold "X" plaque sits at the centre and a gold numeral 6 near the base. Founder Sergio Momo explained at the launch that the seven bottles retrace the colours of the flag, so Six shares its black glass with Seven.

"Bakhoor has been burned in the region for millennia, and over time has become associated with luxury and hospitality, much like the UAE itself." (Xerjoff)
What does Xerjoff Six smell like?
It starts bright and spiced, then turns smoky and deep. Xerjoff lists these notes:
| Stage | Notes | What they bring |
|---|---|---|
| Top | Marasca cherry, pink pepper, bitter orange | Dark, tart fruit with a peppery sparkle |
| Heart | Neroli, black pepper, incense | Smoke and heat, lifted by a little orange blossom |
| Base | Tobacco, tolu balsam, ambergris | A smooth, resinous, slightly sweet finish |
Marasca cherry is a sour Morello cherry from Dalmatia on the Croatian coast, the original cherry behind maraschino liqueur. Here it gives the opening a dark, almost boozy fruitiness rather than a candy sweetness.
Incense is the heart of the idea. Fragrantica's launch article describes the heart as "infused with smoky incense", and black pepper keeps it dry and sharp.
Tolu balsam is a resin tapped from the living trunks of a South American tree, Myroxylon balsamum. It brings a soft, vanilla-like warmth that rounds off the smoke, and the tobacco adds depth underneath.
What is bakhoor, and why does Six reference it?
Bakhoor (also spelled bakhour or bukhoor) is the scented incense burned across the Arab world, usually as small chips or blocks. People burn it in a mabkhara, a traditional censer that originates in the Arabian Peninsula, to perfume the home, and it is used on Fridays and at weddings and other occasions.
It also has a social side. In many Arab countries the mabkhara is passed among guests in the majlis as a gesture of hospitality. That is the link Xerjoff draws: bakhoor stands for welcome and generosity, which the house sees in the UAE as well.
Six is not a literal copy of burning bakhoor. It is a wearable perfume that borrows the smoke and warmth of the ritual and pairs it with fruit and pepper. If you want to understand oud, the wood often found in bakhoor blends, our guide to what oud is explains it. Six itself does not list oud.

Xerjoff Six vs Xerjoff Seven: the two black bottles
Six and Seven share the black flacon, so they are easy to confuse. They smell very different.
| Xerjoff Six | Xerjoff Seven | |
|---|---|---|
| Glass | Black | Black |
| Character | Smoky and spicy | Creamy and soft |
| Top | Marasca cherry, pink pepper, bitter orange | Pink grapefruit, coconut, pear |
| Heart | Neroli, black pepper, incense | Incense, orris, cashmeran |
| Base | Tobacco, tolu balsam, ambergris | Madagascar vanilla, ambergris, Virginia cedarwood |
| Parfum Central price, 100 ml | AED 2,700 | AED 2,475 |
Both list incense and ambergris, but in Six the smoke leads, while in Seven it sits quietly under coconut, orris and vanilla. Choose Xerjoff Seven if you want comfort and sweetness, and Six if you want smoke and spice.
Who Xerjoff Six suits
Six is for people who like their fragrance to have presence. It works well if you:
- Love incense and smoke but want something fruitier than a classic oud.
- Already burn bakhoor at home and want a version you can wear.
- Like tobacco and resin in the base of a perfume.
- Want a dark evening scent for autumn and winter.
Our editorial view: Six suits evenings, majlis gatherings and cold weather. Start with two sprays; a smoky perfume like this does not need many.
How to wear Xerjoff Six
Smoky perfumes build on skin, so less is more. Two sprays on the neck or wrists are enough for an evening, and a third on clothing will carry the incense further. Six is at its most natural in cooler air, when the cherry and pepper stay crisp and the tobacco and tolu balsam have time to unfold.
If you burn bakhoor at home, Six continues the same smoky mood on skin once you head out. It also sits comfortably alongside a dark, woody wardrobe. It is less suited to hot daytime heat or close office spaces, where a softer number such as Seven or Three is the easier choice.
Is Xerjoff Six worth it?
That depends on what you want from it. Six is one of seven numbered bottles made for a single market and a single occasion, so part of its appeal is the story and the collectible set. As a perfume, it fills a specific gap: an incense scent built on fruit and tobacco rather than oud. If you already own an oud-heavy smoky perfume and want something brighter and spicier, Six is a genuinely different choice.
Xerjoff Six and the rest of the collection
If Six appeals to you, two other numbers are worth a look. Xerjoff Five is the collection's rose and oud, another tribute to Arabic perfumery, with saffron and pink pepper on top. Xerjoff One, in red, is the herbal fougère of the set and shares Six's pink pepper. Other bottles made for Dubai and the Emirates are rounded up in our article on Dubai exclusive perfumes.
