Rose absolute is produced by solvent extraction of rose petals (most often Rosa centifolia from Grasse or Rosa damascena from Bulgaria, Turkey, or Iran), and it differs markedly from steam-distilled rose otto. Where the otto carries the airy, lemony top facets of fresh rose, the absolute holds the deeper, honeyed, slightly waxy heart of the flower, with rose-petal warmth that lasts through hours of wear.
