Rose water is the hydrosol byproduct of rose-otto steam distillation: the water phase that condenses alongside the essential oil, carrying water-soluble fractions of the rose molecule. The hydrosol smells lighter, fresher, and more transparent than rose absolute, with a softness that suits Middle-Eastern compositions where heavy rose oils would overpower other ingredients. Rose-water-based perfumery is centuries old in the Gulf region. Oman Luxury Dejan at Parfum Central uses rose water at the top of its composition, the lighter floral note allowing oud and amber to dominate the dry-down.
