Xerjoff Four UAE Exclusive: The Date Perfume in the White Bottle, and What It Smells Like
Share
Xerjoff Four is the date perfume of the Xerjoff UAE Exclusive collection, a white-bottled gourmand that Xerjoff composed "to honour one particular element of the UAE's culture: the humble date". Dates, Pomarose and North African chamomile open it, bitter almond, cypriol and Somalian olibanum oils form the heart, and a saffron accord with labdanum finishes it. "Date perfume" draws around 3,600 US searches a month on Google Keyword Planner, yet few perfumes put the fruit at the centre the way Four does. This guide covers what Four smells like, why Xerjoff chose the date, and how Four differs from its white sibling, Five.
What is Xerjoff Four?
Four is the fourth of seven perfumes Xerjoff created in honour of the United Arab Emirates. The house unveiled the collection at Beautyworld Middle East in Dubai in late October 2025 and released it in December, coinciding with Eid Al Etihad, the UAE's National Day. Xerjoff's own product page titles it "a Dubai boutique exclusive", and each bottle takes a colour from the national flag. Four is white.
Our guide to the Xerjoff UAE Exclusive collection shows all seven numbers together, from the red fougère of One to the creamy black Seven.

Why the date?
Xerjoff explains the choice in its own description: "Steeped in history and local heritage, the date and the tree that bears this delicious fruit are representative of prosperity, fertility and life itself." The house adds that the note's "tempting sweetness invigorates this perfume and contributes to its gourmand appeal".
The date is also part of everyday hospitality across the Arabian Peninsula. Arabic coffee, which UNESCO lists as intangible cultural heritage of Arab states, is almost always served with dates when guests arrive. Four turns that familiar pairing of warmth and welcome into a perfume.
"Steeped in history and local heritage, the date and the tree that bears this delicious fruit are representative of prosperity, fertility and life itself." (Xerjoff)
What does Xerjoff Four smell like?
It opens sweet and honeyed, turns creamy and resinous, and finishes warm and golden.
| Stage | Notes | What they bring |
|---|---|---|
| Top | Dates, Pomarose, North African chamomile | Sticky, honeyed fruit with a soft herbal lift |
| Heart | Bitter almond oil, cypriol oil, Somalian olibanum oil | Creamy almond over earthy wood and clean resin |
| Base | Saffron accord, labdanum | Golden spice and a warm, amber-like depth |
Dates lead the composition. Fragrantica's reviewer, who smelled the collection at its launch, called Four "absolutely delicious, thick yet not overly sweet".
Pomarose is a fruity rose note, and North African chamomile adds a soft, herbal touch. Together they keep the dates from becoming heavy.
Cypriol is an essential oil distilled from the roots of a sedge, also called nagarmotha. Its aroma is described as woody, earthy, dry and spicy, and in Four it grounds the sweetness.
Olibanum is another name for frankincense, the resin of Boswellia trees, harvested in places such as Somalia. It gives Four a clean, slightly smoky lift in the heart.
Labdanum and saffron close it. Labdanum is a sticky resin with a warm, amber character, and the saffron accord adds a refined, golden spice.

Xerjoff Four vs Xerjoff Five: the two white bottles
Four and Five share the white flacon, but they suit different moods.
| Xerjoff Four | Xerjoff Five | |
|---|---|---|
| Glass | White | White |
| Character | Date gourmand | Spiced rose and oud |
| Top | Dates, Pomarose, North African chamomile | Dried fruit, coriander, saffron, pink pepper, bergamot |
| Heart | Bitter almond oil, cypriol oil, Somalian olibanum oil | Rose, caramel, oud |
| Base | Saffron accord, labdanum | Tonka, cedarwood, vanilla, oakmoss, ambergris, white moss |
| Oud listed | No | Yes |
Both carry saffron. In Four it warms the base, while in Five it sparks the opening. If you want rose and oud, choose Xerjoff Five, and our guide to Xerjoff Five explains it in detail. If you want something sweeter and more comforting without oud, choose Four.
Is Xerjoff Four very sweet?
Not as sweet as the word "gourmand" suggests. The dates are rich and honeyed, but bitter almond, earthy cypriol and clean olibanum pull the heart away from dessert, and labdanum gives the base a resinous rather than sugary warmth. There is no vanilla or caramel in the note list. If you usually find gourmands cloying, Four is worth trying, because its sweetness comes from fruit and resin rather than sugar.
Who Xerjoff Four suits
Four is for people who want warmth with a sense of place. It works well if you:
- Love dates, honey or dried fruit and want them in a perfume.
- Like almond and resin notes such as frankincense and labdanum.
- Want a gourmand that is not built on vanilla or caramel.
- Want a comforting scent for cooler evenings and quiet gatherings.
Where we would wear it: autumn and winter, evenings at home, and as a gift. Begin with two sprays.

How to wear Xerjoff Four
Four is a close, comforting scent rather than a loud one, so it suits the moments it was inspired by: evenings with family, gatherings where coffee and dates are on the table, and quiet nights at home. Spray once on each side of the neck and once on the wrist. The dates are richest in the first hour, and the almond, olibanum and labdanum take over as it settles. In hot weather, a single spray on a scarf or collar keeps the sweetness soft. Four also makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves the flavours of the Gulf, and the white bottle looks the part on a dresser.
The white flacon
Four's glass is frosted white, one of the four colours of the UAE flag, which the collection shares out across seven bottles. It keeps Xerjoff's faceted shape and tall gold cap, with a gold "X" plaque at the centre and a gold numeral 4 near the base. The glass is painted by hand with brushstrokes that Xerjoff says mimic the moving sands of the desert.
Four and the rest of the collection
If you like Four, look at the other warm numbers. Xerjoff Seven is the collection's other gourmand, creamy with coconut, orris and Madagascar vanilla. For smoke rather than sweetness, our guide to Xerjoff Six covers the bakhoor-inspired black bottle, and our guide to Xerjoff Two explains the fruity green one.
