Chamomile

Chamomile in perfumery usually refers to Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) rather than the blue-distillate German variety, with a softer, more apple-like, herbaceous-floral profile and almost no medicinal edge. Roman chamomile essential oil is rare and expensive because the plant yields very little oil per kilogram of dried flower; commercial compositions often blend a small natural fraction with synthetic chamomile reconstruction to achieve the desired note at workable cost.
