Two main species dominate. Peppermint (Mentha piperita) yields an oil dominated by menthol, with a pronounced cooling effect. Spearmint (Mentha spicata) yields an oil rich in carvone, greener and less cold. Both are steam-distilled from flowering tops and leaves, mainly in the United States (which supplies over seventy per cent of world production), India, China and Morocco. Moroccan mint (Mentha viridis) is specifically used in traditional mint tea.

Mint is a top note with vivid lift. Perfumers use it to add icy freshness to colognes and sport compositions (Prada Luna Rossa, Creed Original Vetiver), to electrify fougeres, and to give modern masculines a gym-clean edge. It pairs beautifully with basil, citrus, lavender, vetiver and tea.

Mint performs best in spring, summer and hot weather, and suits daytime and sport signatures across all genders.
