    Jean-Claude Ellena composed Angeliques Sous La Pluie in 2001 for Frédéric Malle's Editions de Parfums launch. The title translates as "angelicas in the rain," and the fragrance delivers on that image: the juniper berries, pink pepper, and bergamot opening is clean and slightly sharp, with a quality that reads as cool air rather than conventional freshness.

    Angelica in the heart is the composition's defining material. An earthy, slightly celery-like herbal note, angelica appears rarely in contemporary perfumery; here it provides the "rain on green stems" quality the title describes. Coriander adds a citrusy-spiced dimension that bridges the opening and the base.
