Chrysanthemum, particularly the auratifolia and morifolium varieties, contributes a green-leafy, slightly bitter floral profile that sits unusually in fragrance compositions: less sweet than rose, less powdery than violet, with a herbaceous edge that recalls fresh-cut stems. The note rose in profile during the 2010s when Asian-market perfumery pushed for chrysanthemum-led compositions, particularly in Japan and Korea. Amouage Myths Man and Initio Atomic Rose at Parfum Central both include chrysanthemum, paired in each case with darker counterpoint notes that balance its slight bitterness.
