Elemi Resin

Elemi Resin fragrance note icon

Elemi resin is the soft, lemon-yellow oleoresin that flows from cuts made in Canarium luzonicum, a tree native to the Philippines. Manila is the historic shipping port that gave the material its commercial identity, and Filipino harvesters remain the main supplier today. Steam-distilled elemi oil smells bright, citrus-peppery, slightly piney, and faintly incense-like, with a green-spice character that sets it apart from frankincense or myrrh. The note is a niche-perfumery favourite for opening blends because it carries both top-note lift and base-note longevity. Several Le Labo, Maison Crivelli, and Comme des Garcons releases use elemi structurally. It pairs especially well with frankincense, bergamot, vetiver, and pink pepper.
